THE COLLECTIVE APPROACH

The Collective Approach is a network of professionals who provide low-cost mental health care and support to adults and children (ages 6 and older).

The bee, a symbol of community and personal power, represents the professionals who are coming together to support those who need it, but also the strength of the clients we serve.

OUR OBJECTIVE

Working collectively, our mission is to provide increased community access to important mental health services, making it as barrier-free as possible for everyone. Finding affordable mental health care can sometimes be difficult and, as a group, we are working to create a service that offers low-cost counselling to those who need it.

In order to help as many people as possible and keep wait times low, there is a limit of 10-12 sessions per individual. If you need long-term counselling care, the counsellors will work with you to help find what you need.

Our counsellors are private practitioners who are committed to supporting our objective within the field of mental health. Working with each individual, the counsellor determines what the cost of sessions will be, based on a sliding scale. Sessions will range form $50-$80 based on what each individual can afford.

You will be charged $50 for your first appointment, wherein your counsellor will assess your ability to pay for services. If it is determined that you can afford market-rate counselling (typically $100-$220 per session), they will help refer you to professionals working outside The Collective Approach. After that first session, if it is determined that affordability is a barrier for you, your counsellor will help set a price ($50-$80) for short-term counselling (10-12 sessions) based on your income or benefits.

Counselling through The Collective Approach is available for adults and children (ages 6 and up).

FAQ

HOW DO I SCHEDULE AN APPOINTMENT WITH A COUNSELLOR?

You must reach out to the counsellor you wish to work with. View the counsellors' profiles, decide who you might feel the most comfortable working with, then email them directly and ask for an appointment - you will hear back from them very soon.

WHY IS THERE A LIMITED NUMBER OF SESSIONS AVAILABLE?

Each individual will usually have between 10-12 sessions. After that, if services are still needed, the counsellors will work with you to determine the next step. This approach is designed to serve individuals short-term, rather than long-term in order to increase access to services for other people (decrease wait list times).

ARE COUNSELLORS' FEES COVERED BY MY STUDENT OR EMPLOYEE INSURANCE?

All counsellors are certified and/or registered within the province and many insurance companies will cover their fees, but it is important that you check with your specific provider beforehand.
